We are always welcoming new Cub Scouts!  You may join the pack at any time. You're also welcome to come visit a Pack meeting, it's a great way to see what we're all about.  Usually our Pack meets at Cannon River STEM School on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at 6:30pm.  We have a few Pack meetings that are held at various places.

Who We Are

Cub Scout Pack 301 is located in Faribault, MN and proudly chartered by American Legion Post #43, Faribault, MN.

We are part of the Rolling Hills District of the Northern Star Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).

Cub Scout Pack 301 is dedicated to preserving the long standing tradition of Cub Scouts by providing young men ages 5-10 the opportunity to participate in scouting activities that will enable the youth of today to become leaders of tomorrow.

Our Scouts normally meet twice a month as a Den and once a month for the Pack during the school year. Pack 301 meets at least monthly during the summer for various fun activities such as camping, parades, community service, and more!

As a Cub Scout, you do your best and you help others.  You learn the Cub Scout Promise and the Law of the Pack and what it means.

What We Offer

Cub Scouting means"doing".  Everything in Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing activities.  These activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting - citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness.  Many of these activities happen during our  den meetings and/or our monthly pack meetings.

Frequently Asked Questions about Pack 301

Frequently asked questions are listed questions and answers.

Other Commonly asked questions may be found on the FAQ page.

What is a Pack?

A pack is a group of Cub Scouts, adult leaders and parents who belong to the same Cub Scout unit (e.g., Pack 301, Rolling Hills District, Northern Star Council, Boy Scouts of America). A pack generally draws its membership primarily from an elementary school, church or community that is associated with the pack's Chartered Organization and Community. Most of our Scouts attend Cannon River STEM school.  However, we welcome Scouts from every school.  Each pack is made up of:

  • Lion Cub Dens (Kindergarten)

  • Tiger Cub Dens (1st grade)

  • Wolf Dens (2nd grade)

  • Bear Dens (3rd grade)

  • Webelos Dens (4th/5th grades)

What is a Den?

A den is a small group of boys (ideally 6-8) of the same grade level. Each den meets on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to work on achievements and other activities. The den is led by adult Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders, who are responsible for planning and conducting each den meeting.

A Cub Scout Pack is divided into small groups of about 6-8 boys called Dens, who meet at least 2 times a month under the direction of adult Den Leaders.  Dens are organized by rank. Ranks are organized by grade:

  • Lion Cub Dens (Kindergarten)

  • Tiger Cub Dens (1st grade)

  • Wolf Dens (2nd grade)

  • Bear Dens (3rd grade)

  • Webelos Dens (4th/5th grades)

The Den allows boys to get to know each other better and engage in activities that would be difficult in a larger group.  Den meeting activities are planned around the advancement requirements and include games, crafts, outdoor fun, practicing skits and stunts in preparation for the next Pack Meeting, taking part in simple ceremonies and songs, and working on monthly core values.  Some of the work may be accomplished by the boys with their parents outside of the Den Meeting.

The Den Leaders may ask for special help from parents (helping with a meeting, sharing a special skill, or just providing a snack for the boys).  The Lion and Tiger programs are run through shared leadership of the adult partners.

Who runs the Pack?

The pack is run entirely by unpaid volunteers. We always welcome people who would like to help out, and have large and small jobs for every family. Ideally, each family should volunteer for a job, which is what we are working towards in Pack 301.

  • The Pack Committee, which currently consists of the Committee Chairman, Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmasters, Secretary and the Treasurer, develops budgets, approves expenses, arranges for facilities and conducts overall planning.

  • The Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders are most directly involved with the Cub Scouts. Dens generally meet weekly or bi-weekly, a Den Leaders meeting is held monthly (in conjunction with the Committee Meeting) to discuss issues of common concern (first Sunday of every month).

  • An adult member of each Cub Scout household would be appreciated to participate in a volunteer position or serve on a committee.

In addition to Pack Committee and Den Leader positions, Pack 301 generally tries to fill several volunteer positions (e.g., Treasurer, Den Leader, Webmaster, Advancement Coordinator) and have several committees (e.g., Blue and Gold Banquet, Pinewood Derby, Popcorn Fund Raiser, Camping, and other special events).  Lend your skills and make our Pack more fun for the Scouts!

Where are Meetings held?

Pack 301 Den meetings are generally held the 1st and 3rd Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. September through May.   Pack meetings are generally held the 3rd Sunday of the month from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Committee Meetings are held the 1st Sunday of the month at 4:30 p.m.  Most meetings are held at the Cannon River STEM School gymnasium unless otherwise specificed.  The Pack Calendar will provide exact dates, places and times of all pack meetings.

What is a Chartered Organization?

A Chartered Organization is the sponsoring organization for a Cub Scout pack, usually a church, PTA, homeowners' association or other community group. The primary responsibilities of the Chartered Organization are to select the leadership of the pack and provide a meeting place. Each year, the pack must renew its Charter with its local council. The Chartered Organization must approve the rechartering application in order for the Charter to be renewed. Pack 301 is chartered to American Legion Post #43 in Faribault, MN.
